State Farm agreed to pay $1.5 million to a woman who claimed she injured her neck and back in a rear-end collision.

Luz Montoya, then 44, was driving her sedan at Southwest 152nd Avenue and 96th Street in suburban Miami when a sedan operated by Dylan Sorrentino struck her vehicle. She was diagnosed with disc herniations at C5-6 and L5-S1, later undergoing a cervical fusion at C5-6 with screws attached and a lumbar fusion at L5-S1. She claimed she was unable to return to her job due to her injuries. Her attorney argued Sorrentino initially claimed Montoya stopped suddenly and he was unable to avoid hitting her. However, at a deposition he admitted falling asleep while driving and causing the accident.
