A foreclosure defense lawyer sanctioned for filing a frivolous appeal has accused his opposing counsel, former Third District Court of Appeal Chief Judge Juan Ramirez Jr., of misusing his relationship with the court to secure the punishment.

Palmetto Bay attorney Robert Lithman says he was stunned by a Third DCA ruling granting sanctions under a Florida statute that forces litigants to pay the other side’s legal fees as punishment for bringing unsupported claims.
