Bonamar Corp., a Doral-based seafood company specializing in fresh and canned crab meat, filed a lawsuit against a former employee in what may be the first federal trade secrets case filed in South Florida under the new federal Defend Trade Secrets Act.

Bonamar’s complaint alleges Troy Turkin, its former vice president of sales and marketing, used a USB to misappropriate trade secrets before resigning in March to become chief operating officer at another Doral company, Supreme Crab and Seafood Inc., which is 3½ miles away in the city west of Miami International Airport. Bonamar’s complaint states the competitor is owned by an Indonesian crab meat packer.
