Emotions ran high at a sanctions hearing Friday for former Miccosukee Tribe lawyer Bernardo Roman, who chose to represent himself against those seeking his disbarment.

It was a moment of redemption for former U.S. Attorneys Guy Lewis and Dexter Lehtinen, Lewis’ law partner Michael Tein and others who faced years of salacious allegations pursued by Roman in state and federal courts. Last week, referee Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dava Tunis found Roman guilty of 55 counts of violating 14 Florida Bar rules in connection with the litigation.
