Vigil, a full-time pro bono partner for Baker & McKenzie, participated in a major legal pro bono summit in Miami in 2013. For her, the main takeaway was that unaccompanied minors, flooding Miami courts in recent years, desperately needed lawyers to represent them.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates more than 60,000 children will enter the United States this year unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. That number was 25,000 last year and 5,800 a decade ago.
