Google is protesting gay discrimination at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia with a provocative gay rights rainbow doodle.
Go to Google.com to see it, okay, no really, don’t go. We have it posted above. The doodle depicts a variety of winter games sports such as skiing, hockey and snowboarding with the rainbow flag colors in the background.
Perhaps what is even more provocative is what is under it. A quote from the Olympic charter with a list of fundamental principles, rules and by-laws of what the Olympics should be all about.
It is a clear shot at Russia and its anti-gay stance. The quote says “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”
Of course, social media is buzzing as this story is trending.
Danny Sullivan saying on Facebook “Google’s making it clear that it stands against Russia’s law against gay “propaganda” with a logo and quote that cites the Olympic Charter’s non-discrimination clause. Nice.”
