With over 1.5 million data-gathering apps available for iPhone and Android systems, the time has finally arrived for a comprehensive approach to mobile application privacy.

Last month in Congress, Representative Hank Johnson, D-Georgia, introduced the Application Privacy, Protection and Security Act of 2013. Among other things, the APPS Act would require mobile app developers to let users know what an app’s privacy policies are, what user information is being shared and the length of time the information is kept by a developer.
