A Pensacola, Florida, federal jury has awarded $1.7 million in the third bellwether trial over 3M’s dual-ended combat earplugs.

The verdict, which came out late Friday night after a day of deliberations, gives a leg up to the plaintiffs in the massive multidistrict litigation over the earplugs, which lawsuits contend cause hearing loss and tinnitus, or ringing of the ears. A prior jury gave 3M a defense verdict on May 28, and the first jury to hear a bellwether trial awarded $7.1 million verdict to three plaintiffs on April 30.
