A sergeant and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office have been cleared in an excessive force case.

In 2014, officers arrived at a man’s home to arrest his son on a probation violation for failing to pay $695 in fines and costs. His son was handcuffed without incident. The father claimed after he asked officers how to get his son released, the sergeant struck him, forearm to mouth, then arrested him. The charges were later dropped. The father sued, alleging unlawful arrest and battery.
