A doctor has been cleared in a malpractice case.

Kathleen Schwartz presented to Dr. Ravindra Tak on Sept. 21-22, 2011, with diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever complaints. In the Sept. 21 visit, Tak prescribed Cipro. When she became ill again Oct. 11, she went to the emergency room and later underwent a sub-total colectomy and ileostomy. She sued Tak and his employer, Physician Associates LLC, for malpractice. Schwartz’s family medicine expert opined Tak deviated from the standard of care by ordering an antibiotic for a virus.
