The city of Fort Lauderdale has been cleared of liability after a police officer helped a Good Samaritan cross Interstate 95 and she was hit in the process.

Silvia Villagran claimed she assisted a distressed motorist after a car fire before the officer came to her aid. She was on the southbound side of the highway in 2012 when a Fort Lauderdale officer led her from one shoulder to the other. As he did, a speeding vehicle struck her. Villagran, who suffered a closed head injury, back injury, torn quadriceps muscle and scarring, sued the city as his employer. Her counsel claimed the officer had a duty to use reasonable care in guiding her across the street.
