A jury has awarded $52 million to a woman rendered a quadriplegic after a 2012 assault at a hotel.

Victoria St. Jacques, then 20, suffered a fractured cervical vertebra at the Ambassador Hotel in Orlando after a man allegedly body slammed her on his balcony’s concrete floor after an altercation. She sued Sammy’s Investments Orlando LLC, operating as Ambassador Hotel, for negligence and premises liability based on inadequate security. In April 2015, the court entered a default judgment against the defendant after its failure to retain counsel.
