Broward County was ordered to pay a six-figure damage award following a jury’s finding of 100 percent county liability in a vehicle collision that seriously injured Stephanie Clements.

She was driving her sport utility vehicle north on Florida’s Turnpike near Hollywood Boulevard in December 2012 when she claimed a Broward County pickup on the entrance ramp traveled directly into her path. A police report stated the truck was traveling too fast for conditions on the curved ramp. Clements was diagnosed with a depressed fracture of the tibial plateau in the right knee, underwent surgery and may require a partial knee replacement. The jury determined Clements’ damages totaled $246,670.
