A jury awarded a bar bouncer’s legal guardian $13.9 million, which was reduced to $3.3 million after comparative negligence, after he suffered severe brain damage when hit by a car.

After he left his job at an Indialantic bar to get his car, Paul Cahan, 46, was struck by a vehicle in November 2011. He suffered severe head injuries and now needs 24-hour care with most life activities. His wife, Martha Cahan, sued, and the jury found Travel Lynx Inc., a bus company whose bus obstructed the other driver’s view, 24 percent negligent, and Paul Cahan 12.5 percent negligent. The jury also decided against two Fabre defendants, finding the driver of the car that hit Cahan 40 percent negligent and the bar owner 23.5 percent negligent.
