A jury awarded nearly $14.8 million to a clinical laboratory that claimed a competitor violated federal and state anti-kickback statutes when it provided remuneration to physicians as inducement to use its drug-screening services.

Ameritox Ltd. claimed Millennium Laboratories Inc. gave doctors free plastic urine specimen cups with built-in test strips. It claimed providing free supplies to physicians in exchange for referrals constituted illegal inducement and remuneration under the anti-kickback laws.
