A jury decided an optometrist who found a cataract in a boy’s eye was not liable for his later vision impairment.

Richar Sevila, then 7, went to Jesus Cuevas for a routine eye exam in Miami. Four months later, he developed bilateral cataracts that required surgical removal. His parents alleged Cuevas failed to refer him to an ophthalmologist. They claimed he faxed a referral form to an ophthalmologist, but the office never got it.
