A jury awarded $10 million to the family of a gospel singer killed by a drunken driver on a highway shoulder.

Lisa Kemp, 38, pulled her 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood to the side of Florida’s Turnpike near Coconut Cree Parkway in Coconut Creek. A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup being driven by Andrew Buckman veered off the road and rear-ended Kemp’s vehicle. She died a few hours later. Buckman was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol and sentenced to four years in prison. The estate’s expert psychologist testified Kemp’s husband, Dennis, suffered depression and grief over her death. He also testified the Kemps’ son Gabriel was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and having a difficult time dealing with his mother’s death.
