A $100 million deal to settle about 400 federal tobacco cases may be big for Florida, but not for chief plaintiffs negotiator Joe Rice.
Rice’s firm Motley Rice of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, announced the deal Wednesday. Motley Rice and co-counsel Wilner Firm of Jacksonville and Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein of San Francisco are achieving a rare global settlement between smokers and the tobacco industry in decades of hard-fought litigation.
