The Aloft South Beach Hotel, now renamed the Gates Hotel, was not for sale.
When Rockpoint Group, a Boston-based real estate investment company, approached the hotel’s developer Jason Halpern, he had a specific number in mind. Halpern, founder and managing partner of JMH Development in New York, said his intent was to build the Miami Beach hotel and hold onto it.
