Marketing material featuring Donald Trump described a proposed Fort Lauderdale tower with superlatives: Trump International Hotel & Tower was supposed to be the finest, most luxurious, magnificent, world-class development and the home for only a select few.

But the project failed in 2009, and years later the reasons for its demise remained in dispute as attorneys argued a case brought by would-be buyers Tuesday before the Fourth District Court of Appeal. The lawsuits are the last in dispute of more than 80 settled by people who paid deposits for beachfront condomiums.
