On April 27, the Federal Housing Administration will implement several new rules that will make it more difficult for consumers with low income or poor credit records to obtain reverse mortgages.
It’s the latest in a series of regulatory actions designed to protect consumers and ensure that reverse mortgages are used for their intended purpose: Allowing retirees to tap the equity in their homes to provide a secure income stream or more funds to last through retirement.
