Miami city commissioners on Monday approved a multimillion-dollar subsidy package for the massive Miami Worldcenter project, helping the future builder of that mixed-use development secure another portion of the monies it must assemble in order to move forward with construction.

The unanimous vote by city leaders, who sat as the board of the local community redevelopment agency when approving the decision, came in spite of a steady string of speakers who stood up during a three-hour meeting to decry the deal. The objectors said the deal is unwarranted corporate welfare or asked commissioners to delay consideration of the item until the community had more time to analyze the 87-page document.
