Lew Balaban has joined Universal Legal Services as director of court reporting. He was director of court reporting for Esquire Deposition Services.



Richard M. Goldstein, a partner of Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod and chair of the firm’s tax group and co-chair of the Wealth Transfer Group, has been named to the 2010 board of directors of the Key Biscayne Community Foundation.

Jezabel Llorente, a former partner of Tew Cardenas in Miami, has formed her own firm — Jezabel Llorente P.A. She will focus her practice on appellate, labor, employment and complex commercial litigation. She has a law degree from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University.

Dean T. Xenick has joined Burman Critton Luttier & Coleman as an associate. He was a junior partner of Walton Lantaff Schroeder & Carson. Xenick has law and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Florida.



Robert J. Merlin, a solo practitioner in Coral Gables, has been named president of the Collaborative Family Law Institute.

Natalie E. Norfus has joined Jackson Lewis in Miami as an associate. She was an associate with Akerman Senterfitt. Norfus has a law degree from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree from American University.



Mitchell Bierman, a partner with Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske in Coral Gables, has been named to the board of governors of the Dade Community Foundation.

Mary Carroll, a shareholder and chair of Akerman Senterfitt corporate practice group, has been named to the Commonwealth Institute of South Florida, a nonprofit organization of women business leaders.
