Amid “extraordinary recent events,” 36 former federal prosecutors in South Florida on Thursday released an open letter opposing enforcement of President Donald Trump’s executive order imposing a 90-day ban on immigrants and refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries.
Among the ex-U.S. attorney signatories protesting the policy were Republican appointees Roberto Martinez and Marcos Jimenez. Trump signed the order Jan. 27, igniting a firestorm of protests from critics who say the ban is a “thinly veiled” attack on one religion. Two nights later he fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to defend the immigration policy.
