Broward judges Wednesday elected Jack Tuter as the next chief judge, effective July 1, according to the court administrator’s office.

Tuter was appointed to the bench in 2005 by former Gov. Jeb Bush and elected in 2008. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Memphis and was admitted to the bar in 1982. He is former director of Florida’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, an attorney with Conrad & Scherer and partner at Stephens Lynn Klein Lacava Hoffman & Puya.
