Attorney Larissa Zagustin was accustomed to the very formal, corporate environment of a top tier Latin American firm, having worked at one in her native Venezuela for three years. So after obtaining a U.S. law degree in South Florida, Zagustin expected she would see a similar atmosphere in legal departments as she applied for jobs that would give her U.S. legal experience.
Instead, she was taken aback the day she interviewed for an internship in the legal department of what was then MTV Networks. Both her interviewers were very casual, and one, who sat slouched back in his chair wearing a visor, looked as if he had been partying the night before. Posters covered the walls, and the office tour included a room for playing pool and ping pong. The kitchen had an all-you-can-drink soda dispenser.
