A Florida Bar referee’s uncontested recommendation resulted in a 91-day suspension for Coral Gables attorney Maria Elena Perez for ethics violations in her representation of a Ponzi-scheming University of Miami booster facing federal criminal charges and another client.

The Florida Supreme Court, which has the last word on attorney discipline, accepted the punishment recommended by Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Norma Shepard Lindsey. The high court allowed Perez 60 days from Thursday’s order to wind down her practice. It also required her to pay $4,279 to cover the Florida Bar’s costs in bringing the case.
