People across the country are seeking to hold police accountable for unnecessary shootings, and Miami is no exception.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Miami Police Department reached a settlement last month to address a 2013 investigation showing the police department habitually violated citizens’ Fourth Amendment rights by using excessive force. The report examined 33 shootings from 2008 to 2011. The settlement includes several reforms meant to reduce officer-involved shootings and better investigate shootings when they do occur.
