A Fort Lauderdale jury awarded $1.1 million to a woman who tripped on a mop bucket aboard a Costa Cruises ship, fracturing her arm and shoulder.

Joyce Higgs, 67, of Michigan tripped while walking from the ship’s breakfast buffet toward her daughter’s table on Christmas Eve 2014. She sued the company, a subsidiary of Miami-based Carnival Corp., claiming the crew was negligent for leaving the bucket in the dining area with no warning signs.
