Required building certification and safety inspections were not performed at the 88-year-old Dade County Courthouse, the Miami-Dade County inspector general’s office reported, faulting the county for decades of lapses at the deteriorating building.

Until recently, the courthouse had not received structural or electrical inspections required for building recertification since 1988, the report released Monday found. The county requires the inspections every 10 years for buildings more than 40 years old.
