Tampa Bay professional sports franchises responded Thursday to a decision by public officials that private money would be needed to remove a Confederate monument from the front of a courthouse administrative building in Tampa.
The dollar value of the team’s donation wasn’t specified, but a joint statement from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning said they were collaborating with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce to help move the statue off public property, “recognizing that this monument does not reflect the values of our community.”
