Julie Braman Kane, a longtime personal injury and products liability litigation partner at Coral Gables-based Colson Hicks Eidson, has become the first woman in Florida to serve as president of the American Association for Justice, a nonprofit lobbying organization for the trial bar.

Formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Washington, D.C.-based AAJ announced earlier this month at its annual convention in Los Angeles that Kane would become its new leader. She was officially sworn in on July 24, becoming the third Colson Hicks partner to hold the position after firm co-founder Bill Colson served in the role from 1964 to 1965 and current president Lewis “Mike” Eidson held the title from 2006 to 2007.
