A West Palm Beach judge delivered a first in Florida when she recognized the legal parenthood of a same-sex spouse bound to a child by love and commitment but not genetics.
Palm Beach Circuit Judge Lisa Small ruled Wednesday that Lisa Marina Maxwell is “irrefutably” a parent of 6-week-old Satori JoAnn Maxwell. Christine Stephens-Maxwell, her birth mother, married Lisa Maxwell in New York in 2012 and conceived Satori through in vitro fertilization with donated sperm.
