Attorneys Miriam Harmatz, Monica Vigues-Pitan and Neil Kodsi are likely considered rock stars among parents of autistic children in Florida.

Their legal victory in Garrido v. Dudek is giving autistic children access to a treatment that has shown to improve their quality of life. Before the successful litigation, Florida children with autism were denied Medicaid coverage for applied behavior analysis, or ABA. It’s the only evidence-based treatment found to significantly improve these children’s ability to function and communicate with their parents. Yet Medicaid denied reimbursement for any form of behavioral treatment of autism.
