Details: In January 2006, the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services ended a failed 11-year effort to eradicate an outbreak of citrus canker, a bacteria harmful to citrus. Thousands of citrus trees on private residential properties were destroyed, leading to class action lawsuits in counties throughout South and Central Florida.
The Orange County lawsuit was filed in 2005 with Frank Ayers as the lead plaintiff, representing 18,280 homeowners who lost 60,174 trees. Denise Enos took over as lead plaintiff.
