A dozen judges in the Palm Beach circuit got new assignments in January.

Effective Jan. 21, Circuit Judges Thomas Barkdull III and Timothy McCarthy transferred from the civil to family division, and Circuit Judge Donald Hafele moved to civil from juvenile.

The family division received Circuit Judges Charles Burton and Joseph Marx from the criminal division and Jeffrey Gillen from civil. Since Marx is now in the Gun Club Road branch, he will continue to hear criminal cases.

Circuit Judge Rosemarie Scher remains in the family division but is adding a juvenile division docket to her calendar.

Circuit Judge James Martz, who was doing family, criminal and juvenile work at the Gun Club Road facility, is now full-time in juvenile at the main courthouse.

Circuit Judge David Crow left the civil division for the criminal bench.

County Court Judge Peter Evans is new to the juvenile division. He will continue to hear civil and criminal cases in the West County Courthouse in Belle Glade.

County Court Judge Frank Castor moved from criminal to civil, switching places with Debra Moses Stephens.
