Serena Williams Buys Jupiter Parcel For $4.1 Million
Tennis superstar Serena Williams has purchased a sprawling 2.4-acre Jupiter parcel in the heart of an exclusive Palm Beach golfing community.
Williams paid $4.125 million for Lot 61, a vacant homesite with lake views at the heart of Jack Nicklaus' championship golf community, the Bear's Club. The secluded plot at 152 Bear's Club Drive is north of Donald Ross Road in an elite neighborhood surrounding the private 370-acre golf club in a plush community lined with cypress, pine and oak trees.
Her famous neighbors include former NBA star Michael Jordan, who owns a 28,000-square-foot, $12.4 million home.
Michigan-born Williams began playing tennis at 4. When she was 9, her family moved to West Palm Beach to help her training. At 32, she's a world champion with 17 career Grand Slam tournament wins and gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics. She's also won a title in all four Grand Slam tournaments, with her latest victory at the 2013 U.S. Open. Her career wins include 78 championships and gold medals at the 2000, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, founded the Bear's Club in 1999 after years of planning. He serves as board chairman of the club, which offers non-equity memberships.
The course features a 12-foot-high sand ridge and native brush. In 2007 Travel & Leisure Golf named it among "America's Top 100 Golf Communities."
Williams made the deal just before Christmas, and the deed was recorded in Palm Beach County on Friday.
