People who claim a Miami-area cemetery lost track of their relatives’ graves must file separate suits rather than go forward as a class under a ruling Wednesday by a state appeals court.

On May 4, 2011, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Valerie R. Manno-Schurr certified a class that could have topped 5,400 in a lawsuit filed against Graceland Memorial Park South. It’s owned by Texas-based Northstar Graceland and was formerly owned by Alderwoods Group Inc., one of the world’s largest providers of funeral services. Both are defendants.
