A jury awarded $5.5 million to the estate of a man who blamed his lung cancer on smoking Chesterfield and Marlboro Light cigarettes.

Michael "Ike" Buchanan, 61, was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer after the disease spread throughout his body. Upon the mistaken belief that light cigarettes were a healthier alternative to regular cigarettes, he reportedly switched to Marlboro Lights. The estate’s counsel claimed he was a victim of lies by tobacco companies about the safety and addictive nature of their products.
