Few women in banking serve as chief executive officer, but many have risen to positions as department heads and senior vice presidents, and more may take aim at the CEO job in the years ahead.

“It’s not unusual to see a lot of women in senior vice president positions at banks,” said Miriam Lopez, president and chief lending officer of Marquis Bank, a one-office community bank in Coral Gables. Historically, however, banking is “a field that never really attracted that many women.”
