Two women who had children by the same man are not in an “intimate relationship” with each other for purposes of an order of protection extended to non-family members, a judicial hearing officer in Queens Family Court has ruled.

Judicial Hearing Officer Guy DePhillips, the former supervising judge of the Queens Family Court, dismissed a petition for an order of protection under a 2008 amendment to Family Court Act §812, which expanded the court’s jurisdiction to issue orders of protection for those outside the immediate family.
