The Cuban American Bar Association for decades has been largely made up of pro-embargo Cuban Americans with their eyes set on a post-Castro Cuba. But since the restoration of U.S. diplomatic relations with Cuba nearly two years ago, Cuban American attorneys in Miami have been shifting their attention to dealing with Cuba as it is, rather than how they would prefer it to be.

The Cuban American Bar Association held its first conference addressing doing business in Cuba last weekend, discussing not only the decades-old debate on the effectiveness of the embargo and human rights issues, but what attorneys need to be aware of when discussing opportunities with investors interested in Cuba.
