There was no question that a Murphy-style bunk bed aboard the Norwegian Star cruise ship spontaneously unfolded and hit passenger Samiha Jaber in the head.

But Norwegian Cruise Line did not believe Jaber was entitled to anywhere near the $2.8 million in damages she claimed in a federal lawsuit against the Miami-based company. And defense lawyers at Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel managed to rein in the potential damages by taking aim at testimony from a medical expert who backed Jaber’s claims.
