Another contentious judicial election season is in the books, setting up the arrival of new judges in January.
In Miami-Dade County, where Hispanics vote heavily during primaries with judicial elections on the ballot, Circuit Judge Fleur J. Lobree was defeated by Hialeah attorney Mavel Ruiz. It was Lobree’s second defeat in four years to a Hispanic candidate. She returned to the bench on an appointment from Gov. Rick Scott. Ruiz credited her win to out-campaigning Lobree, not ethnic perceptions.
