Most recently, he completed his term as the 68th president and chairman of the Orange Bowl Committee, during which he presided over the 2006-07 Orange Bowl Festival, the 73rd annual FedEx Orange Bowl, the 13th annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic and the eighth season of the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance. The Twelve Good Men luncheon recognizes individuals who give back to their community. 

• Walter Banks, owner, president and chief executive officer of Lago Mar Resort and Club, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Miami Branch. His term will run through Dec. 31, 2009. Also appointed to the board for the same term were Leonard Abess, chairman, president and chief executive officer of City National Bank of Florida in Miami and Marvin O’Quinn, president of the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County and chief executive officer of Jackson Health System. Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s branch directors provide economic information from their industry and use the information in formulating monetary policy and making discount rate recommendations.

• Bonny Rock has been promoted to partner, state and local tax in the Weston office of Grant Thornton, a global accounting, tax and business advisory firm. She was previously a senior manager in state and local tax with the firm.

Education 
• Sonia Chao has been named director for the Center for Urban and Community Design at the school of architecture at the University of Miami. Chao was research assistant professor and director for the school of Cuba Initiative.

• Mia Stierheim has been promoted to retail director at Colliers Abood Wood-Fay in Miami. She was a senior commercial associate.

• Joshua Lyle has joined the Rowley Group, a commercial real estate brokerage company, as an investment adviser in Fort Lauderdale. He was assistant project manager for Gibson Development Partners in Coral Gables.

• Tina C. Moyerman has been promoted to marketing manager for CB Richard Ellis. Moyerman, who was marketing coordinator, will be based in the Miami office.  John Tarantino also joined the firm as an associate in the firm’s multihousing group. Tarantino was an associate broker in Marcus and Millichap’s Manhattan office.

•Transworld Business Brokers, an independent business brokerage, has named Paul Grecco as director of accounting and finance. Previously, he was vice president of Castelli Real Estate Services of Fort Lauderdale. Also at Transworld, Christina Sacco has been named marketing director. She was marketing director for Pointe Technology Group.

Public relations
• Marilu del Toro has been promoted to senior account executive at Wragg & Casas, a public relations firm. Del Toro was an account executive.

• BankUnited Financial, parent company of Coral Gables-based BankUnited, has promoted three executives: Carlos Fernandez-Guzman, previously executive vice president of the neighborhood banking division, has been promoted to senior executive vice president of the consumer banking division. Jim Foster, who was executive vice president of corporate finance, has been named senior executive vice president of the corporate finance division.  Abel Iglesias has been promoted to senior executive vice president of the commercial credit division. He was executive vice president of corporate and commercial banking.

• Donovan Daley has been named senior vice president of the factoring and asset-based lending department at Premier American Bank in Miami. Daley was vice president of factoring at Ocean Bank.

• Rafael Quintana and Henry Quintana have joined U.S. Century Bank in Miami. Rafael Quintana, who was executive vice president of Republic National Bank of Miami and Union Planters Bank, was named senior vice president of residential lending. Henry Quintana, vice president of business development, was owner of Henry Quintana Real Estate, a Miami-based real estate firm.

• Jeanine Dronsick has been named vice president of business development for American Home Lenders in Plantation. Most recently, she was director of sales for NOLA Lofts.

• Johnnie B. Coleman has joined Moore Ellrich & Neal, an accounting firm in Palm Beach Gardens, as a senior member of the litigation services department. He was a special agent with the U.S. Treasury Department. Also, Kyle C. Brown has joined Moore Ellrich as a staff accountant. He was a staff accountant with Hafer & Co.

• Araceli Cardet, vice president and commercial real estate lender for TotalBank, has been appointed a director of Neighborhood Lending Partners in Miami. NLP is a nonprofit lending consortium.

• Richard R. Shavell, president of the Boca Raton CPA firm Shavell & Co., has been appointed to the Associated Builders and Contractors' National Legislative Committee.

• Carlos E. Gutierrez has been named sales director for Villa Magna, a condominium project on Miami’s Brickell Bay Drive. Gutierrez was director of sales and marketing at Cloisters on the Bay.

• Armando Gutierrez Jr., president of Gutierrez Group, a real estate development company, has been appointed to the Public Health Trust board by the Miami Dade County Commission.

• Pedro Martin, chief executive officer of Terra Group, a Miami-based real estate-development firm, has been awarded the 2006 Developer of the Year Award by the Miami chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Salil Chari has been promoted to managing director of strategic marketing for Latin America and the Caribbean for Federal Express. Chari was manager of product development.

• Alys Daly has been appointed director of marketing and communications at The Peebles Corp., a real estate development company. Daly was vice president of public and investor relations for Ener1 Group, a private equity firm with offices in New York and South Florida.

• Julie C. Simon has joined Miami-based National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts as director of communications. Simon most recently was a public relations consultant, working with a wide variety of clients, including Norwegian Cruise Line, the Summit of the Americas and Miami-Dade County.

• Doris Ayala has joined Preferred Care Partners, a health plan provider, as director of utilization management. Ayala was the supervisor of coordination of care and 24-hour authorizations for FPA Medical Management.

• David Pereira has joined Verizon Wireless as sales manager for a newly created Miami district. Most recently, he was Verizon’s associate director of operations in central Texas.
