A Florida Supreme Court justice expressed dissatisfaction Tuesday with how the city of Miami went about cutting police salaries and pension benefits five years ago.

During oral arguments, Justice Peggy Quince, who led the questioning in Headley v. Miami, grilled Deputy City Attorney John Greco about why the city abridged the statutory process for dealing with “financial urgency” during negotiations with the police union. The police contract was set to expire Sept. 30, 2010, also the deadline for the city to adopt its fiscal 2010-2011 budget.
