Before joining the Daily Business Review, he was editor in chief of Miami Business magazine, which he helped launch in 1998. While under his leadership, it was consistently named "Best Written" magazine by the Florida Magazine Association. He has won awards in feature writing, editorial writing and for a special entertainment issue from the FMA. He also served as executive editor of LatinCEO magazine, which he helped conceive and launch in 2000. Eddie is a veteran of the Associated Press, where he worked as a writer and editor for nearly five years. He has also reported for the Palm Beach Post and New Miami magazine. Vala also worked with the Florida Supreme Court for three years as an evaluator/researcher on a project evaluating Florida’s jury system.
