ight South Florida attorneys have been disciplined by the Florida Supreme Court for Florida Bar violations ranging from participating in mortgage fraud to practicing law after suspensions.
 Disbarments
 Howard Seth Gaines of Boca Raton, an attorney and title agent with Your Title Choice in Deerfield Beach, was disbarred for five years after being suspended. He was convicted of federal mail and wire fraud conspiracies for work on $5 million in fraudulent mortgages. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay $423,000 restitution.
 Scott Henry Lebowitz of Coral Springs was disbarred for five years for misappropriating client funds and mishandling an estate. He was ordered to pay $6,458 restitution.
 Gerald John D’Ambrosio of Boca Raton, an attorney since 1987, was disbarred for practicing law while suspended for contempt. He had been suspended for a year for failing to notify judges, opposing counsel and clients of a 90-day suspension.
 Suspensions
 Christine Marie Horn of Boynton Beach was suspended indefinitely for misappropriating client trust funds. A Bar audit prompted by complaints about her handling of two probate estates revealed trust account shortages rose from more than $3,000 in September 2006 to nearly $314,000 in October 2008.
 Randall Jeffrey Layman of Miami was suspended indefinitely for misconduct resulting in two suspensions followed by disbarment in Michigan and failing to report the sanctions to The Florida Bar.
 Reprimands
 Benjamin Raul Alvarez of Coral Gables was publicly reprimanded, ordered to pay $22,633 restitution to a client and placed on probation for six months. After numerous inquiries by a judge and client, Alvarez admitted misplacing and never depositing a year-old check for $10,000. In another case, he withdrew from a case following a fee dispute. The lawsuit was dismissed, but the client was not informed.
 Robert Brian Roemer of Palm Beach Gardens was publicly reprimanded for a conflict of interest after going into business with a client, commingling his funds with trust funds and failing to give a proper accounting to the client. His trust account records were inadequate and failed to follow required accounting procedures.
 Linda Amy Ann Cahill of Boynton Beach was publicly reprimanded for assisting a suspended lawyer in the practice of law. |
