An Oklahoma City attorney charged with helping her boyfriend escape from jail has resigned from the state bar.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court on January 14 accepted the resignation of Amy McTeer, a criminal defense attorney who also faced charges of drug possession and child endangerment.
McTeer, 40, was arrested in 2011 for helping her boyfriend, a former client, escape from a correctional facility where he was being held for possession of methamphetamine while on probation. The two were taken into custody after police found them having lunch in a downtown Oklahoma City restaurant, a few hours after she had uploaded post-escape photos of them onto her Facebook page, according to local news reports at the time. Police said they found the boyfriend's prison uniform in McTeer's home.
The justices, in accepting her resignation from the Oklahoma Bar Association, prohibited McTeer from applying for reinstatement for five years. In a dissent, Justice Joseph Watt wrote that he would not permit her to resign but would impose disbarment.
McTeer holds a law degree from University of Tulsa College of Law.
Court documents identified no attorney of record for McTeer. She has no listed telephone number and did not respond to a request for comment sent via Facebook.
